Custom cabinetry has to fulfill several functions.  It has to serve a purpose (storage, countertop, display) and it also has to fit both the room it resides in and the customers tastes.  At A.R. Foss, we have nearly thirty years of experience in custom cabinetry.  Our products are in finer homes from Florida to Maine, including New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, and more.

Below is an example of one of hundreds of cabinetry installations through out the East Coast.  The large hutch pictured here lives on the coast of Maine.  It is made from black walnut, with curly maple sticking, solid marble countertop and flanked with solid black walnut.  The hutch integrates seamlessly with the wet bar, seen at the right of the image.  True divided light glass windows in the display cabinets above are a classic touch. Each square has its own, separate piece of glass.  Frosted glass sliding doors above the marble countertop slide effortlessly out of the way into hidden recessed pockets.  Above the black walnut flanking countertops are light reflecting, pure glass mirrors, complete with the curly maple sticking borders.  The gentle arc of the bow front cabinets beneath the marble counter are matched with working drawers.  Internal structure consists of full extension drawer slides, and superior grade black walnut 7 ply laminates.  The baseboard of black walnut solidifies the presentation as a working, functioning part of the room, permanently installed.

The mantle and paneled base below this hearth in Stowe, Vermont, are constructed of solid Honduran mahogany, finished in a water based stain mixed with semi gloss poly urethane, and were hand rubbed between coats.  The result is a consistently warm grain enhancement, and a complete and easy integration (note that the columns on the fireplace match the column at right) into a very comfortable room.  Detail, like the hand turned columns on either side of the gas fireplace, bevelled panels and custom shaped moldings ensure classic presentation, visual beauty and long-term value.

Superior cabinet design and integration into a bath suite is a most challenging proposition.  Below, our cabinetry had to match a very bright, large bath room with a great deal of beautiful tilework.  Our result, the custom vanity, integrates a two large sinks, a plethora of drawers and a dropped height cosmetics counter.  The vanity is matched by our lighting soffit, which provides clear, bright indirect lighting for the nearly ten-foot wide mirror.  The entire unit was installed on a tiled base and capped with stone countertops and sinks.  The multi-layered, satin finished, oil based enamel adds to cleanliness of the overall presenation.  The outer painted surfaces were constructed of solid birch, internal shelving and structure of high grade birch ply. The custom brackets on either side of the soffit were built up from solid birch.  Note the detail in the brackets, the recessed panels and cove molding of the soffit as well as the cabinet doors and the side of the vanity.  To learn more, or inquire about your next project, please telephone or email us.
